One of my favorite retreats in the East Village is this airy and spacious ice cream place that serves really good coffee. I love going there on Saturday mornings and listening to their great selection of vinyls while enjoying a cappuccino. Also, if you are like me and love coffee AND ice cream, their affogato is to die for.
The space is ample with big windows and a wood bar facing East 7 Street, where you can sit on cute vintage looking stools and people watch, daydream, work on your computer or write, surrounded by plants. A quiet space to enjoy your coffee, although it can get a bit crowed later on the day. There are some tables in the center and a bench that goes along the left side table of the space with three tables where you can always find people working on their laptops or some random group of tourists getting their sugar or caffeine fix.
The long wood and marble bar welcomes you with doughnuts, biscotti and other baked goods, and hipster baristas that know how to serve an impecable ice cream scoop and prepare the perfect coffee. To its right, there is a fridge for cold drinks and above it, the listing of their goodies and their specials: ice creams (both milk-based and vegan, and with flavors than go from the classic chocolate or vanilla to salted caramel, Sicilian pistachio and matcha green tea), coffees and teas. So there is no kids menu, but then, do you really need one when you have ice cream? Little Sous Chef’s favorite one is the mint chip, while La Petite Wasabi is more traditional and favors the chocolate one, and I think I like them all.
Unfortunately, this space doesn’t have high chairs or a restroom.
